New York, NY (PRWEB) June 05, 2013

As Biomet hip replacement lawsuit claims continue to move forward, the nationwide law firm of Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes that Biomet Inc. is conducting two studies to assess the safety of metal-on-metal hips, including the Biomet M2a Magnum Hip Replacement System. According to a notice posted November 6, 2012 on clinicaltrials.gov, the company is currently enrolling participants in an observational study investigating adverse local tissue reactions in recipients of metal-on-metal hip implants. The study, which is being conducted in compliance with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) 2011 post-market surveillance order directing metal-on-metal hip replacement manufacturers to conduct safety studies of their products, is expected to be completed in December 2014.*

According to a second notice posted on clinicaltrials.gov that was updated on March 6th, Biomet has been conducting a study in Japan since 2009, the purpose of which is to investigate metal ion release and renal function in M2a Magnum hip patients. The study, which is no longer recruiting participants, is expected to be completed by December 2021, though final data collection for the study’s primary outcome measure is expected to conclude this December.**
